Overview of Central Toronto

Central Toronto includes the downtown districts of Toronto and its surrounding vicinity such as Chinatown, Koreatown, Financial District, Queen West, Harbourfront, Yonge Street, Bloor-Yorkville, The Annex and etc. Toronto’s most important shopping districts are located in Central Toronto, which are The Eaton Centre, Yonge Street, Queen West and Bloor-Yorkville. This region also contains the most important sporting venues in Toronto, Air Canada Centre and Rogers Centre. The Financial District is part of the downtown core which is the economic centre, with Bay Street being the home of the head offices of the “Big Five” Canadian banks as well as the third largest stock exchange in North America. The Queen West neighbourhood was once textile manufacturing area. It is now made up of some small textile shops and some major clothing retails shops. This area also has some small cafes, bars and restaurants. The Bloor-Yorkville region is the home to some of the most upscale shopping, ranging from the Holt Renfrew and Harry Rosen to luxury brands such as Tiffany’s, Hermes and Gucci. There are also luxury hotels and fine dining restaurants located in this area.
