Overview of East Toronto
East Toronto covers from the Upper Beaches up to the Danforth Avenue in the north. This was an incorporated community which later annexed into Old Toronto. the central street in this neighbourhood was Main Street, running between Danforth to Kinston. The present day commercial centre of this area is Main Street and Gerrard Street. The East Toronto was occupied in about 1850 and was incorporated as a village in 1888 where there were about 800 people living in the area. In 1903, this area began to grow rapidly and was elevated to a town from a village. The southern part of this area turned into one of the most popular travel destinations in Toronto.
